The main objective of our research is the exploration of ultrafast phenomena in condensed matter on the elementary time and atomic scales. We focus on systems with broken symmetry ground-states (superconductors, antiferromagnets, density wave systems, multiferroics, etc.), often exhibiting cooperative/competing order parameters aiming at tuning/manipulating their properties by means of ultrashort optical pulses. To this end we apply and develop new real-time spectroscopic techniques for investigating dynamics of elementary and collective excitations and their manipulation.
