Solid-state physics is the largest branch of condensed matter physics. It studies how the large-scale properties of solid materials, consisting of a large number of chemically bound atoms, result from their atomic-scale interactions. As such, solid-state physics forms the theoretical basis of materials science, and has direct applications in modern technology (e.g. semiconductor devices, magnetic recording, etc.).
The goal of this course is to explain the basic principles of solid-state physics which are necessary for our understanding of modern solids.

Weekly exercises are meant to expand and deepen the knowledge. Thus, successful participation in the exercises is a necessary requirement for the exam at the end of the semester.
